It was a big week for poker both in North America and offshore. The reveal of a big movie and the release of apps in the Play Store have a lot of people buzzing about the game. Let’s take a look at the biggest poker news of the week:
PokerStars, 888Poker Apps Get Approval For Google Play UK
It’s official: real-money poker apps have hit the Google Play store in the United Kingdom but don’t get too excited yet. As the country tests out how they can legislate the usage of real-money poker games on phones, a number of big brands were allowed to release as part of a restricted test. PokerStars, 888poker and partypoker are available on Google Play UK, along with Ireland and France. That allows these companies to put their games forth for approval. This means the games have to follow certain rules to keep everything legal, so they can see if there are any loopholes to cover. Before, if players wanted games like these, they had to go to the official websites and download them to circumvent the play store. Being available on Google Play is definitely a step in the direction of these games becoming legal.
Positive Reviews For Poker Movie Molly’s World
Early reviews for Molly’s World have come out and the response has actually been quite good. The film is based on the story of Molly Bloom, who was an Olympic skier, but she decided to run a highly exclusive poker game that featured a lot of players in the Hollywood industry. The game was brought down by the FBI in a sting that happened in the middle of the night. Now the story is being brought to life by Aaron Sorkin, who has been behind some of the biggest television shows and movies, but this is actually his directorial debut. Jessica Chastain plays Bloom while the likes of Kevin Costner, Idris Elba, Michael Cera and Jeremy Strong are just some of the names you’ll recognize in the movie.
The reviews have come from the Toronto International Film Festival and there are a lot of critics that have given it positive reviews. It is set for a full-scale release on November 22, so there is still some time for the promotion machine to get the name out there, but right now, Molly’s World looks like it is on track to be the best poker movie since “Rounders,” which came out in 1998. The story came from Bloom’s book, “Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker.”
Kenney Collects Check At Masters Event
Bryn Kenney has won the Poker Masters Event #3, a $50,000 No Limit Hold ’Em event. Kenney was fourth in chips as the competition went from 48 players to seven, but he outlasted the field to come out on top to win $960,000. The last man eliminated was Erik Siedel, who fell short in heads-up play. Siedel still took home $576,000 for his efforts while Jake Schindler was third with $312,000.
Kenney now has won $1.085 million in the Poker Masters events as he finished seventh in the second edition, scoring $125,000. It was his first win since April when he won a high-roller event in Monte Carlo and took home $1,946,911. To say that he is on a hot streak right now is a bit of an understatement, and there is still a lot of time left in 2017.
