The UFC is back on Saturday as they’ll be at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, once again. For a second straight weekend, it’s the ladies who headline the card. Let’s take a closer look at three of the bigger fights on the card along with the odds for each.
Jessica Eye vs Cynthia Calvillo
UFC Fight Night Odds: Eye -120, Calvillo -110
Eye is the No. 1 ranked women’s flyweight and is No. 12 in the pound-for-pound rankings on the women’s side. She has won four of her last five matchups but the lone loss was a brutal one to Valentina Shevchenko last June. Shevchenko turned her lights off with a head kick. Eye was able to follow it up by getting a decision win against Viviane Araujo at UFC 245, so she is back on track.
Calvillo is recently coming off a draw against Marina Rodriguez in strawweight back in December, which had drawn some controversy. She has incredible talent but hasn’t had KO power like other fighters do. She is a great grappler and submission threat and has just made the move from 115 pounds to 125 pounds.
Marvin Vettori vs Karl Roberson
UFC Fight Night Odds: Vettori -225, Roberson +175
One of the more anticipated on the card will be the Vettori-Roberson bout. They were previously scheduled to clash at UFC Fight Night 175 but Roberson had to drop out because of because of rhabdomyolysis (stemming from weight loss). It was reported that Vettori got into an argument with Roberson in the hotel and claimed that he was ducking him.
Vettori enters after back-to-back wins against Andrew Sanchez and Cezar Ferreira. His last loss was all the way back in April 2018 when he lost to current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, which is nothing to be ashamed of. He actually put up a great fight in that bout and lost by split decision. He is skilled on the ground and standing up, which makes him a dangerous threat.
Roberson’s last fight was a rear-naked choke submission win against Roman Popylov back in November. Overall, he has won three of his last four fights with his only loss at the hands of Glover Teixeira. He is a great kickboxer and incredible striker and has been greatly improved on the ground as well. However, his last two losses game on the ground, both by arm-triangle choke, and Vettori seems to excel on the ground, so this could be a problem for him.
Andre Fili vs Charles Jourdain
UFC Fight Night Odds: Fili -230, Jourdain +180
Jourdain has been able to pick up wins in five of his last six matchups. He is recently coming off a huge victory against Doo-Ho Choi in a bout where he was posted as a +220 underdog. He was able to beat Choi in his own home in South Korea and the win was even more impressive as he came back after being knocked down in the first round. The matchup with Choi was actually Jourdain’s second official UFC fight; his first was a unanimous decision loss to Desmond Green.
As for Fili, he has been fighting in the UFC since 2013 and has had mixed results. Stats can be shaped in a number of ways. While he’s won four of his last six bouts, he’s also lost two of his last four. He started his career 13-1 but the UFC hasn’t been kind to him as he’s just 7-6 since.
