This week’s poker news delivers some positive news on three separate winners from this past week. Let’s take a closer look at each player’s big wins and how they got there.
Sterling Collects $281,126 For WPT500 Win
With the coronavirus pandemic forcing sweeping changes to the poker scene, the first-ever World Poker Tour Online Series has been running. They’ve had to move it online because poker rooms are mostly closed down all around the world. That proved to be no problem for Germany’s Fabio Sterling, who cruised to a win in the WPT500 event, which wrapped up on Tuesday.
There were a total of 4,828 entries in the field, which created a prize pool of $2,414,000. While it took nine days to get there, Sterling survived the field and ended up collecting $281,126 for his troubles. This tournament truly came down to a final four and it was at that point that Sperling, who was in the chip lead, decided to call it a day and split the pot with the other remaining three players, prorating it by chips.
Taking a look at the rest of the Top 4, Walter Treccarichi finished second and won $235,667, Markus Prinz finished third and won $202,012 and Christopher Putz finished fourth and won $187,290.
Costabile Wins Celebrity Poker Event
On Saturday, PokerStars hosted the “Stars Call For Action” online poker event, which drew a series of celebrities. It was David Costabile who eventually outlasted the field to earn the win. As a result, he picked up a $100,000 check, which will be donated the charity of his choice. He chose to give that to World Central Kitchen.
Sportsbooks actually had betting odds up on this event and it was Kevin Pollak who was favored to win it. You might recall that Pollak has played in the World Series of Poker and has finished in the money in the Main Event. He is also known for hosting weekly events in Hollywood. At any rate, he didn’t even finish in the Top 5.
Some of the big names at this event included Amy Schumer, Michael Cera, Bryan Cranston, Hank Azari, David Arquette, Liam Payne, Ed Norton, Macaulay Culkin, Lisa Kudrow, Teri Hatcher, Neymar and Don Cheadle.
“Vmasi1” Wins $10,000 GTD PLO Six-Max partypoker Event
It’s been a busy few weeks for partypoker as they are running a number of poker events in the partypoker US Network Online Series. Vmasi1 is the latest winner as he picked up a cool $4,000 for his win.
It was a relatively small field as only 49 entrants were in the running. There was a two-and-a-half hour window where players were able to rebuy, which netted 15 rebuys and 17 more add-ons to join the 24 who were still playing. This was the first HIGH stakes PLO tournament in the series and actually started with just seven players.
“Vmasi1” took home $4,000 for the win while “SuppppaStar” was second and earned $2,150. “KNIEM7” was third and earned $1,400 for his finish.
