This week’s poker news focuses in on tournament results from the past few days as well upcoming showdowns to get excited about. We’ll start with the latter as Daniel Negreanu – fresh off a big head-to-head showdown with Doug Polk – is ready to go in again with another legend.
Daniel Negreanu And Phil Hellmuth Set Up High-Stakes Heads-Up Match
It seems like Daniel Negreanu is eager to jump back into another heads-up match shortly after wrapping up his battle with Doug Polk. Next up is a face off against the 15-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth on PokerGO’s High Stakes Duel. Both of these players like to talk trash, so this should be a fairly entertaining showdown.
The two shared meaningful tweets to one another about the contest but Hellmuth had openly criticized Negreanu for his play against Polk a few weeks ago. The two have even shared some trash talk leading up to the event, with Negreanu claiming that Hellmuth is a chicken and that he is scared to face off against him.
The match is going to be very different from the one between Polk and Negreanu with it being a sit-n-go format instead. As of right now, Negreanu is the early favorite but Hellmuth but that’s mostly just speculation. This should be a good battle.
MSPT To Host Two Iowa Stops In March
The Mid-States Poker Tour is set to continue Season 12 in March with two stops coming in the state of Iowa. The first will be at the Grand Falls Casino with the other located at Riverside Casino, which would make it the first time the MSPT visits there. A number of online news outlets will be operating from the festivities to provide live updates to fans who cannot make it.
They have a ton of events lined up for people to participate in that are going to run from March 3rd to March 21st. It will conclude with the $1,110 buy-in $200k guaranteed Main Event. The event is scheduled to run from the 26th to the 28th at Riverside Casino.
If you are in the area and want to head on down for these events, the Riverside Casino Hotel is actually offering MSPT players terrific rates throughout the event. With COVID restrictions easing up, it should be easier to get there and safer to play there.
Rayan Chamas Wins The MILLIONS Online Knockout Event
It was a fantastic day for Rayan Chamas as he was able to win the MILLIONS Online $05 6-Max Knockout event. The win netted him a total of $56,561, with $21,106 from his first-place finish and the rest coming from bounties that he earned along the way. It was an easy win for him, though. The tough journey saw him barely get by Twitch steamer Joshua Hoesel in heads-up play at the very end.
There was a total of 164 entries for this event with each of them paying the $1,600 buy-in. The top 29 finishers in this event were able to walk away with extra cash as well to finish in the money. Surprisingly, though, the event fell short of the $250k guarantee. They were hoping it would generate more enthusiasm but in the end, there was less participation than expected.
Outside of Chamas, there were five other players who made it to the final table. They were Robert Svedin, Jonathan Proudfoot, Tauan Naves, Joao Vieira and Armin Razaei. Each of them walked away with a solid payday but none as big as Chamas.
