This week’s casino news begins in Las Vegas where an old hot spot is getting a makeover. Let’s take a closer look at this week’s casino and gaming news of the week:
Palms Begins $620-Million Renovation
The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas was once a chic place for the young crowd to hang out. It’s become a faded memory, which is why Station Casinos – which now owns the Palms – is hoping that a $620-million renovation will bring it back to life. Station Casinos bought the property for $312 million in 2016 and has decided that while it has been doing well, it can be better. The plan is to open up a new bar and restaurant, as well as a renovation of the Pearl Theater where concerts can be held. In terms of gaming, the owners are planning on adding a new VIP room to the floor. There will also be a new nightclub that is projected to be over 29,000 square feet in size along with a pool club that will be over 73,000 square feet. By this fall, there will be over 60 new hotel rooms to rent at the Palms.
The Palms suffered a slight decline in revenue over the first quarter of the year but is still going ahead with the makeover, which they’re calling “From Dust To Gold” via a marketing campaign. There will be multiple phases to this project and it is slated to be officially completed in 2019. The question is whether it will be enough to pull away customers from City Center, The Park and all of the other shiny new areas of The Strip.
Better Collective Launches Educational Site For Gaming, Sports Betting
There was some good news for the sports betting and casino world this past week when the Supreme Court of the United States announced that it would be overturning the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). This will now allow the states to individually decide whether they want to legalize sports betting. One company that’s wasting no time in making moves is Better Collective, which is going to launch a website to educate players on gaming, betting and horse racing. US-Bookies.com will also have reviews of sports betting sites for their players, along with what states you’re allowed to bet in and its parameters.
There is a big debate going on right now about who will benefit from the Supreme Court’s ruling and right now, it looks like a lot of auxiliary entities will be the winners. While the states decide who will handle the sports betting (whether it’s the government, the lotteries or the casinos), the license fees and the taxes, the immediate beneficiaries are people related to the business. That means content providers, handicappers and affiliate sites. Better Collective is looking to be one of the first to benefit.
Betsoft Partners With Spintropolis
Betsoft Gaming has announced that it will be working with Spintropolis to help give its players even more quality online slots games. Hailing out of Malta, Spintropolis has been successful so far with its games, but working with an online gaming power such as Betsoft will be a huge boost for brand awareness. Earlier this month, Betsoft announced that it’ll be working with Groove Gaming Limited. The company is hoping that both partnerships will help it gain a stronger foothold in the European market.
