DiCaprio, Revenant Leading the Way on Academy Awards Odds

DiCaprio

The Academy Awards are just a few days away, and the conversations about who’ll win the Oscars have ramped up. The main storyline is focused around the Best Actor Award and whether or not Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win his first golden statue.

There is a big sentimental push to urge the Academy to select him for an Oscar, and the betting odds reflect that everyone is behind him. The talented actor is the clear-cut favorite (-5000), which is about as big of a favorite as you’ll see in this situation.

Not only is his performance in The Revenant considered to be Oscar-worthy and his best yet, it’s also that there isn’t another standout male lead actor that figures to really challenge him. Eddie Redmayne (+1000) is his next closest competitor for his role in the far lesser known movie The Danish Girl.

Speaking of popular male actors eyeing their first Oscar, Sylvester Stallone (-300) has been nominated for the first time since 1977. Back then, he became the third person ever to receive a nomination for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay for the same movie (Rocky).

However, he didn’t win then but he is favored this time around for his supporting role in the Rocky sequel, Creed. He’s up against Mark Rylance (+220), Tom Hardy (+1000), Christian Bale (+2000) and Mark Ruffalo (+3300).

Among the ladies, we see another big favorite as Brie Larson (-2000) is sizable chalk to win the Best Actress Oscar. She’s up against Saoirse Roman (+800), Cate Blanchett (+1600), Jennifer Lawrence (+1600) and Charlotte Rampling (+4000).

If the Golden Globes are any indication, both Larson and DiCaprio won in their respective categories, which is why they’re expected to do similarly well at the Oscars.

The Golden Globes can often tip us off, and that appears to be the case for Best Director and Best Picture as well. The Revenant (-225) is the favorite in the Best Picture category and director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (-600) is favored to win Best Director.
