This week’s poker news features a few winners from tournaments being held all over the world, including an online event that broke records. We’ll start there with our weekly recap of the poker headlines.

Van Fleet Claims Partypoker Millions

Jonathan Van Fleet won the partypoker MILLIONS online event, which was the biggest event in the history of partypoker. There was a buy-in of $5,300 with the winner guaranteed to win at least a million dollars. Van Fleet has made his name playing online as he has been marginally successful in live tournaments, winning just over $269,000 there, but he has now won over $8 million in online tournaments.

He was followed by N0-IPTRI4121, who won $651,118, while SandwichBacon won $435,448 in third place. LendaMeerienda won $294,749 in fourth place and Karamazovbros rounded out the top five with $207,968. Still, no one had anything for Van Fleet, who actually won $1,027,000 for his efforts.

Next, partypoker will be focusing on the MILLIONS series for 2018 where they’re going to King’s Casino and Casino Barcelona, among other places.

Vernon Wins 888poker London Main Event

Christopher Vernon has survived the field in London to come out on top at the 888poker Live Local London poker festival. He won the main event, which had a buy-in of $294 with 529 players and 258 re-entries. That made for a prize pool of $208,275 and in the end, there was a deal made between the final five players. Vernon was the first-place winner with $26,353 while Philip Marsh made $20,378 for second place. Richard Harsnip won $24,785 for third place, Pantelis Christodoulou took home fourth with $17,591 and Alexis Savvides finished in fifth but won $19,507. It’s not often that you see a deal between so many players but everyone left satisfied.

That was the last event of the year for 888poker Live, which has yet to reveal where it will be going in 2018. There are due to be 12 events on the slate for next year.

Rubie Reels In WSOP Sydney $5K Event

Next we’re off to the World Series of Poker Circuit Sydney where Brendon Rubie got a little bit of revenge. After coming up just short at the event in 2016 (losing to Luke Edwards), Rubie took it one step further this time around. He managed to get through a field that had 229 players battling for a prize pool of $1,087,750, outlasting a lot of very good players in the process. He ended up winning $271,952 for his first-place result, followed in second place by Sam Huggs, who won $166,079. Meanwhile, Jordan Westmorland claimed $122,328 while finishing in third place, Steve Pappas finished in fourth with $90,468 and Andy Lee rounded out the top five with $67,951. It was a huge win for Rubie, and not just from a financial aspect. After coming so close last year, it was a bit of a mental test for him to make it through the field again and finish the job.

The World Series of Poker Sydney Circuit isn’t done for this year with its main event still to come as the series runs through December 18.
