This week’s casino news has MGM squarely in the news. Their sharp eyes caught a player trying out a very unique type of cheating but he’s busted now. We’ll start there.
Man Pleads Guilty After Cheating Casino Out Of $30,000
If you do the crime, you’ve got to do the time. That’s what one man is thinking about after getting caught up in a cheating allegation at a casino.
41-year-old Daniel Ruiz was busted in an illegal poker scam that rang up nearly $30,000 in winnings for himself. The crime took place at the MGM Springfield casino and Ruiz has since been ordered to pay all the money he won back to the casino. He’s the first person in the state of Massachusetts to be indicted for cheating.
While playing the game of poker, Ruiz employed a strategy that saw him breaking down big chips for smaller ones with the dealer. When he would trade the big chip for smaller ones, he’d use a sleight of hand trick with the dealer to add to his bet on the table. In the gambling community, this is called bet-capping. MGM only caught it after a close review of the footage.
We’ll see how serious the legal system views this as Ruiz could face a little bit of jail time.
Softball Player Signed As Sports Betting Ambassador
Sports betting brands are scooping up all sorts of content, companies, and athletes in partnerships and now one brand has delved into softball.
BetMGM has just announced that they would be signing A.J. Andrews, a very accomplished softball player, to become their new content creator and ambassador moving forward.
Andrews was the first female to ever win the Rawlings Gold Glove Award and is regularly featured on the Major League Baseball Network.
Andrews said that she was excited about the opportunity to “creatively share and inspire others” as the new ambassador. MGM Resorts then said that they were proud to welcome her in to the organization. However, the details of the contract she signed with them weren’t revealed.
Las Vegas Set To Receive $3 Billion Investment From Oak View Group
Oak View Group has just announced its plans to invest big in Sin City. The company plans to build a large $3 billion entertainment complex in the Las Vegas Area. Included in this complex would be a casino that is still unnamed at the moment but beyond that, there aren’t many other details regarding the project except for an estimation of it getting built which is in 2023. It does appear that this could be a massive sports complex to host non-professional sports competitions, maybe things like little league baseball tournaments, other football, and more.
Oak View believes that there isn’t a better location to build this new entertainment complex than Las Vegas itself. They recently picked up 25 acres of land new to the I-15 and I-215 intersection in the city. It was also reported that the entire project will be getting privately financed.
This is the biggest project that Oak View Group has ever done so far and it could be their most successful yet. Ironically, a new casino in the same Las Vegas area was just built by Station Casino not too long ago. That casino was their first in roughly 17 years as well. Southwest Las Vegas just seems to be the place to go.
