Georgia Teacher Embezzles Over $240K Because Of Gambling Addiction
A teacher in Georgia just pled guilty to wire fraud charges that were pretty severe. According to multiple reports, the teacher had stolen more than $240,000 from various businesses in order to fund her gambling addiction. The woman, Treanna Denise Trice, had deposited 109 fraudulent checks and 265 credit card transactions.
After these charges have come to light, it is expected that she could see up to 20 years in prison along with three years of supervised release. On top of all that, she will be required to pay $250,000 in fines for the amount of money that she stole. A ruling won’t be made until March 29th in 2022.
Trice stole the money from two businesses and they both happened to be places she worked at previously. The first was from a dental office and the other as a campaign coordinator at the United Negro College Fund. She stole $162,044 from the UNCF and $70,231 from the dental office.
Owner Of Jai-Alai Fronton Wants Poker in Orlando
Those who have been hoping for a new poker room in Orlando may be in luck. The owner of the Jai-Alai fronton in Orlando has recently been looking into turning the property into a large entertainment complex that could potentially include poker. Plans were submitted years ago to turn the property into a large complex and now those plans were updated to add on gambling.
Florida has been battling a couple of lawsuits since legalizing sports betting in the state. As a matter of fact, a judge just ruled that the sports betting compact between the state of Florida and the Seminole Tribe actually violated federal law, meaning that their sportsbooks were forced to shut down already.
Sports betting is going to come back at some point in the future, but adding on poker shortly afterward would be a welcome idea.
Philadelphia Casinos Now Require Proof Of Vaccination
Starting January of 2022, anybody that wants to enter a casino in Philadelphia will have to show proof of vaccination, or else they will be denied entry. Mayor Jim Kenney announced that the vaccine mandate will be coming for any indoor property that serves food to their guests. This is one of the few casinos in the country that are requiring proof of vaccination in order to place a bet. The 2021 World Series of Poker had similar rules but it was only for that specific series and not the property itself.
The only other cities that have similar mandates are New York, San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, and Los Angeles at the moment. However, in New Orleans and Seattle, it is acceptable for a guest to not be vaccinated as long as they provide a negative test.
The mandate will start on January 3rd, but people can still just provide a negative test for entry until the 17th. That is when proof of vaccination will officially start for the buildings that fall in their jurisdiction.
