Mike Postle is still in the news and as per usual, it’s not for good reasons. We’ll start with the latest from his story as we recap the relevant poker news of the week.
Postle Gets Dropped By His Legal Team
Things just keep on getting worse for alleged poker cheat Mike Postle. After narrowly escaping what should have been a legal punishment, now Postle is trying to turn the tables and sue. However, his lawyer has now bowed out.
Steven T. Lowe was Postle’s lawyer throughout the $330 million defamation lawsuit, but he’s now filed paperwork to drop Postle as a client. It had been reported that a lack of pay could have been the deciding factor in Lowe dropping him as a client.
That leaves Postle without any sort of representation in his nine-figure lawsuit, which has seen many prominent names in the poker community come out and claim his fraudulence. It’s likely his legal team saw that there was no merit in his case and wanted to cut their losses.
Postle is now going to have to prove that he could win the case or else the entire motion would be dismissed, and he would be forced to pay the attorney fees for each of the defendants. Don’t be surprised if he drops this case outright very soon.
Yong Kwon Named 2020 WSOP.com Player Of The Year
It was an incredible day for Yong Kwon as he was able to be announced as the WSOP.com Player of the Year. The nomination was able to get him a $10,000 cash prize along with a ring. The 31-year-old poker player was also a bracelet winner in the 2019 WSOP $400 NLH Online, an event that saw him overcome a total of 2,825 entries in order to claim the top prize of $165,263.
But that’s not the only title that he has claimed throughout his career as he picked up a $6,933 prize in the WPT Online Borgata Series $109 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. Not to mention the fact that he has more than $3.8 million in total online tournament earnings.
Kwon wasn’t able to win this award without countless hours of play though as he stated that he played nearly 1.6 million hands of PLO cash while adding on an extra million hands in MTTs. It seems like those hours have finally been paying off for the upcoming poker star.
Lucky Hearts Poker Open Has First Winners
The 2021 Lucky Hearts Poker Open has officially begun with a handful of players already picking up their prizes in the early events. This series is currently taking place in Seminole Hard Rock at Hollywood, Florida. The main event is projected to round up the series, having a $1 million guarantee and a $3,500 buy-in.
Yuval Bronshtein was able to take home first place in the $400 Limit Omaha 8. The event gathered a total of 123 players and a $41,205 prize pool, the second biggest Omaha 8 event in history. Bronshtein had won the first-place prize in the event for $7,535 after finishing in second place in this exact same event last year.
But he wasn’t the only player that cashed out big, as Fernando Rodriguez was able to win the $600 Deep Stack NLH. The event generated a total of 3,004 entries and had blown away the initial $300k guarantee, resulting in a $1,577,199 final prize pool. Rodriguez was in the lead at the start of the second day and he never looked back, earning $205,000 in prize money after striking a three-way deal in the event.
